The Thinking Esthetician

The esthetician who thinks they can succeed, will!

What do you think about most? Are your thoughts mostly positive or negative?

According to the Mayo Clinic, positive thinking could reduce stress, lower rates of depression, and even increase your life span. Your dominating thoughts could manifest into physical reality.

I have always believed in the power of thought, so I spend time daily focusing my attention on what I do want in life, and visualizing the outcome. Like most things, it does take practice to keep your mind from straying into negativity. We spend time exercising our bodies to stay fit, so why don’t we exercise our minds?

Do you feel like you’re constantly banishing the negative thoughts from creeping in and sabotaging your latest vision or dream? Why does this happen? Because we tend to focus on what we don’t want instead of what we do want.

The best thing to do is to take action and clear any negative thinking before you slip down the rabbit hole of despair.

Here are three things you can do rather quickly to intercept those negative, rampant thoughts:

Affirmations or mantras.

Repeating affirmations or mantras can elevate your mood and potentially improve your self-esteem. Post your mantras in areas that you will look at throughout the day. My absolute favorite success mantra is from Gay Hendricks, in his book; The Big Leap. “I expand in abundance, success, and love every day, as I inspire those around me to do the same.”

Make a gratitude list.

Sometimes negative thinking can make you forget about all the good things that are happening in your life. List out the things you are grateful for. This gesture will shift your mood and your attitude. Try writing down five things you’re thankful for each day.

Focus on the outcome of your goals.

What I find works best is focusing your thoughts on what you do want. If you have goals already written down, imagine where you’ll be once you’ve accomplished them. It’s very hard to be in a negative space when you steer your thoughts towards reaching your goals. It puts you in a happy place almost immediately because it’s impossible to think negatively and joyfully at the same time. I find that thinking about your goals throughout the day is helpful, especially upon rising in the morning and just before bed.

When your dominating thoughts are more about what you do want, instead of what you don’t want, you will notice a shift in your attitude and well-being. Your spirits will be lifted and you will start to attract success.

Live passionately,
